We have rising star Loryn Taggart performing new material that you can hear before she gets takes off worldwide. Her smooth voice, charismatic music, and room-filling tones will make you fall in love with her and her music.

This is all before The Roadogs take the stage with an infectious performance, personalities clashing and complimenting on-stage and lots of amazing energy.

Location: Toronto, Ontario.

Last week, I had the pleasure of going to Oretta’s upstairs event space in Toronto. for a private event celebrating Hayman’s Gin.

Enter Hayman’s Gin of London

Hayman’s Gin is the only gin currently being distilled in London, UK. It’s been around since 1863 and they mentioned that if the original founders came through their location, they would mention that the London Dry Gin would have tasted the same as the one that was originally made.

We had the opportunity to sample four of their gins, both straight up and within cocktails.

I prefer a more floral and botanical gin, however, the Sloe Gin was very tasty and something that would be enjoyed for a while.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the Father and Son, Christopher and James Hayman as well. It got me thinking more about the legacy I want to leave behind. I will probably end up in the spirits’ business at some point just for that reason alone.

I had the opportunity to try the Hayman’s 50th Anniversary Rare Cut Gin, which was a very smooth and highly recommended gin to try.

See my photos from the Hayman’s Gin event below:

For more information about Hayman’s Gin, their history and heritage, be sure to look out for the LXRY Magazine article coming soon or find out more information on their website.

David Yurman’s new boutique location in Holt Renfrew on Bloor Street in Toronto has beautiful displays, interesting mix of textures of both warm and cool tones, a balance between soft materials and wood.

I have to say, I am really happy with how these images turned out. It showcases the textures, materials, and space accurate to how I experienced it.

The beautiful jewelry is display in both silver and gold and has a men’s and women’s section.

The jewelry is dynamic, interesting, colourful, ranges from subtle pieces to bolder statement pieces, while the men’s jewelry can be very masculine and utilitarian with a twist of style.

For more information about David Yurman, be sure to visit their website or check out their new location at 55 Bloor Street West in Toronto.

I met Toronto artist, Briony Douglas, a few years back. We were both hired as red carpet paparazzi photographers.

Upon meeting her, she had a presence to her that I just felt like she was ahead of the curve.

I felt like she knew a lot about human behaviour, trends, fashion, and just had a knack for anticipating notable things.

Even though we were both hired to be on the red carpet pit taking pictures of celebrities during TIFF season, however, I had a hunch that she wasn’t just snapping celebrity portraits, that she was up to a lot more behind the scenes.

Mouth Piece: Briony’s First Show

Flash forward to her first show, Mouth Piece, a mix of both close-up pictures of, well, mouths showcasing different things. She also started showcasing mixed 2D collages that felt like a very trendy and artistic version of a vision board including animals, women, wild energy, glamorous objects, and more.

Moving on between shows, Briony got into some more unique work, combining streetwear with glamorous 1980s-1990s inspired settings. A combination that brings together new and retro styles with whole family settings, with a layer of basketball streetwear. A fascinating and well-executed idea. These images have found success through social channels and have caught the eye of Vogue, Air Jordan, and more.

Clearly, I have been a fan of Briony for years, so when hearing about her latest show, I was excited, to say the least. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the opening party, but I made the trip over to 49 Ossington Ave for my birthday, yesterday.

This is Briony. Fashionable, right? Like, just look at those shoes.

Homage

With Homage, Briony wanted to bring her love of fashion, icons, and collages all together. She created 3D artwork on clean canvases that represent some of her favourite icons in culture. What I love most about these pieces is just how many different elements make up an iconic look, brand, or figurehead. It’s a combination of many different things that make up a single iconic figure.

Her combined pieces are like character traits that make up these characters that have gone up against incredible criticism and have risen above.

Here are the icons Briony is paying Homage to:

Basquiat

Kanye West

Michael Jordan

Esteé Lauder

Barbie

Coco Chanel

The Bottom Line

I wanted to showcase a piece of each artwork because I want you to see the full picture for yourself and discover some new art.

If you would like to see the full pieces, be sure to attend the event from now until April 13, 2019, at 49 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. 12pm – 8pm daily.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and thank you for your time.

Thank you for having me, Briony! Congratulations on your show.

There is a gap that you may not know about. You are in between the gap right now.

The Knowing-Doing Gap.

It’s the difference between what we know we should do and what we actually do. Everyone’s gap has different widths.

Yours could be close, or it could be further away.

However, the closer it is, the better you will be off. We all know what the best thing for us to do is. Or we know how to get that information.

The faster we bridge that gap, the faster we start to do the things we should do.

My bridge starts construction today.

How far are you from what you should be doing?

I have to say I was curious.

As I get into more filmmaking, I want to know where I can take my skills, where my ceilings are and how I can get to the next level.

There is a common thing about photographers and filmmakers that I have noticed, everyone knows the next 5 things they want to buy. Whether it’s lighting, sound, lenses, camera body, light stands or just general equipment. As I get further into production, I want to know what can take me to the next level.

For me, with Netflix coming into Canada in a big way and sinking more time, money and resources north of the border, I wanted to see what the lowest barrier of entry is to start having the potential of getting on Netflix.

Instead of buying camera bodies that are a few thousand dollars and not give me that potential, I am now going to be saving up for a camera that has the capability of a large distribution channel, like Netflix. Then for my business, BenchMRK Digital, we would be able to serve up Netflix-quality visuals for our videos, pretty neat.

So! Which camera is the cheapest Netflix-approved camera?

The Sony FS7 Mark I & Mark II.

This cinema camera is not ‘cheap’ either, coming in around $9,379 CAD for the Sony FS7 Mark I (body only) and around $11,249.99 for the FS7 Mark II (body only). However, most of the cameras on this list are well over $20,000.

That being said, for something half or less than half that you would normally pay for, the Sony FS7 is packed with a lot of great specs to help you further your film

For you, hardcore spec-hungry enthusiasts out there, here are the FS7’s specs.

Product Highlights (Sony FS7 Mark I)

  • 8.9MP Exmor Super35 CMOS Sensor
  • 4K UHD (3840×2160) Up to 60 FPS
  • Full HD (1920×1080) Up to 180 FPS
  • RAW Output for External 4K/2K RAW Recording

Product Highlights (Sony FS7 Mark II)

  • 8.8MP Full-frame CMOS Sensor
  • 180 FPS HD Continuous Shooting
  • 4K (4096×2160) Up to 59.94p
  • ISO 2000 Sensitivity
  • Electronic Variable ND Filters Built-In

Here is the full list of Netflix-Approved cinema cameras:

Canon

  • C700
  • C700 FF
  • C300 Mark II
  • Canon C500

Panasonic

  • VariCam 35
  • VariCam LT
  • AU-EVA1
  • Varicam PURE

RED

  • Weapon (Dragon) 6K
  • Weapon 8K
  • Weapon 8K S35 (Helium/”Stormtrooper“)
  • 8K Monstro

Panavision

  • Panavision DXL

Sony

  • VENICE
  • F65
  • PMW-F55
  • Sony FS7
  • Sony F5
  • HDC-4300
  • PXW-Z450

ARRI

  • ARRI Alexa 65
  • ARRI ALEXA LF

Blackmagic

  • URSA Mini 4.6K
  • URSA Mini Pro 4.6K

The Bottom Line

So, filmmakers in Canada. If you are looking to save some money for equipment, getting a loan, or investing in a new camera for your films to potentially get on Netflix, be sure to look at the Sony FS7 Mark I or II for your next purchase, you could get your movie, documentary or TV show on Netflix in Canada and seen by thousands of people. Now, if you excuse me, I’ll be saving up as well.

So! A lot of people don’t know that I graduated from McMaster University’s Automotive Engineering Program and that I have been around cars my whole life with my father who worked for Goodyear Canada for many, many years.

I have loved cars and the moment that I got my very own, it was a given that I would get CAA.

For over 10 years, I have had CAA and it’s gotten me out of some tough situations.

I have had tire blowouts, flat tires, dead batteries both on the road, on the side of the highway, completely out of town and stuck in my own parking spot. CAA South Central Ontario has always helped me. So, when the opportunity to pitch them on a few ideas, it was speaking from personal experience.

For CAA, the wintertime is sometimes overwhelming. CAA gets calls, lots of calls, from people with dead car batteries every winter and it’s something that can be a quick fix if you are asking the right people!

I worked with CAA South Central Ontario on a campaign to raise awareness about car battery health in the winter time. In the cold weather, they are prone to die faster much faster with the colder weather. It’s a lot like your smart phone’s battery if you use it in cold, cold weather, it will deplete the battery faster than usual.

Video #1

Is Your Car Battery Ready For Winter??? ❄️🔋👈🏻

Did you know that the average car battery lasts 3 to 5 years and with SO MUCH tech in our cars now, it might be even shorter! Above is a video is a close depiction of a situation I had when I needed to get to an important event.

Don’t be like me, stuck in the parking spot. Be like a responsible person and when you get your car tires changed over, ask about your car battery too! 🚘

Video #2

Ask For It! ❄️🔋👈🏻

You ask for different things from different people every day.

Why don’t you ask about your car’s battery when you change your snow tires or next time you are getting an oil change?

If your car CRANKS ⚙️, GRINDS or CLICKS when turning on the ignition, that is a warning sign that your battery may need to be replaced.

The Bottom Line

If it’s below freezing out your car could experience shorter battery life, which could get you stranded, like me, in different situations you don’t want to be in. A car is something you should be able to rely on when it comes to your daily life and when you don’t take care of it, it could cost you a job, a potential girlfriend if you miss a date, or generally a really important opportunity that you could have been there to capitalize on.

Thank you for watching the videos and be sure to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel for more videos.

For more information about your car battery, be sure to visit your local auto shop to get an audit on the health of your battery. This way, if you need a new battery, you can get it installed right then and there!

For more information on CAA, visit their website:  CAA South Central Ontario

Thanks for reading and watching!

Day Three! Just like that, today was the day!

This was the biggest day of the Woodward Dream Cruise weekend, the busiest day on the streets of Michigan as thousands upon thousands of cars filled the Michigan streets.

We first started the day with breakfast and were shuttled over to Mustang Alley with Ford, where the Bullitt Mustang was posted up at the front of the big exhibit. At this few it was very difficult how deep the event actually went, but we were excited to find out.

Read my previous posts here: Woodward Dream Cruise  [Day 1] + [Day 2]

Starting the Mustang Alley, there were many different new cars in the Ford line-up, including the newly released, CobraJet and Ford GT.

From there, it was just absolute Mustang madness. Left and right, parked on the streets hundreds of Mustangs were parked and there was just about as many combinations of colours, years, makes and models as you can think of.

Apparently over 1,200 different Mustangs and even more mustang enthusiasts parked their cars proudly as chatted to other big fans of the ‘Stang lifestyle.

There was a whole Bullitt Mustang parking lot dedicated to the classic car, and even a section called the ‘Snake Pit’ filled with Shelby Cobra versions.

From there, we were all excited to see the main event, the Woodward Dream Cruise.

As the morning turned into the afternoon, the streets continued to fill up. The classic cars kept on coming and it was just one big, diesel and gasoline powered day.

You can read more about the event on LXRY shortly, but until then, be sure to enjoy the photo gallery below:

Day two at the Woodward Dream Cruise, has been the most eventful part of the trip so far.

Day I here:

After waking up from a terrific sleep at The Townsend Hotel at around 6am, I hit their fitness facility to get in a quick arms work out. I wish I did abs, based on the fact that I then enjoyed a Brûléed French Toast right after. It was very delicious with a medley of sauces to accompany it.

Then I got back to the room, packed everything needed for the day and headed down to meet everyone.

I was excited for day two to get into the cars again and see what other configurations of Mustangs I could drive.

One being the Bullitt Mustang (pictured below).

Aside: The Bullitt Mustang will forever be in twined in the fabric of who I am and I’ll explain that in a longer form in the next few days. It’s part of my identity in many ways.

As soon as we got to our Ford Canada hub for the last couple days, I was introduced to one of the head engineers for the Bullitt Mustang. I asked about what it took to get the idea not only respected and blessed by drivers who identify with Bullitt the movie and the classic Mustang, but also the youth that don’t know a thing about the movie and just see it as a cool black or green Mustang. He mentioned that there were some design challenges and risks, but ultimately got a group ‘thumbs up’ from real drivers when it was being announced and details were mentioned.

Thought: It must be really tough to take a heritage brand and modernize it, this was one of the moments where I think they did a great job.

After getting to drive the Bullitt Mustang, manual transmission, the feeling was terrific. The sound roared underneath me and really made me feel like I was in a real muscle car. Probably, a feeling that my father had stepping into his Mustang for the first time.

After that great driving experience, a few of us headed downtown to Greektown in Detroit to enjoy some food and one of them had the great idea to squeeze in the football game at Ford Field. So, I went to my first NFL game and my first Detroit Lions game, very fun time.

One thing, I must give Detroit Lions credit for, they have an amazing pre-game show. Extremely motivated.

Here it is, here:

Looking forward to my last day, where it’s scheduled to be a beautiful day for a drive.

Here are my pictures from Day II at the Woodward Dream Cruise with Ford Canada:
